Why should we listen to voices from Africa?

Most of you will probably see the title of this and pass on...
Talk about Africa is not on your radar. Well, there are two good reasons why we as Christians need to be listening to voices from Africa:

1. The church is now vastly non-western. It is African, Asian, and Latin American. These are the places where the church is not only large, but growing and vibrant.
2. Jesus is most often found among the poor and on the margins. If you want to know where Jesus is, and what he is doing today, look in Africa!

I went to a "talk" at a Calvary Chapel near where I live and missionaries from AFrica came and told us all about what they were doing and the horrific things that happen in Africa...I cried almost the whole time...Africa became something that I really began to pray for. If I can't go myself then I praise and keep close to my heart any missionaries that are helping and bringing the love of christ to the masses who so desperately need it! You have wonderful words that explain things so perfectly!

Hi Jules,
Thanks for the comment. We've just returned from our holidays in Finland, so I didn't post anything recently.
Yes, if you are confronted with the situation in Africa it can make you cry. We can feel powerless if we think of all the suffering, poverty and difficulties on this continent. But you are right: we can pray and we can open our eyes, hearts and minds and get involved in one way or the other.
During my holidays I read an inspiring, encouraging book about Heather Reynolds from GOD'S GOLDEN ACRE. Did you hear about her, her book or her work?
She helps the AIDS orphans and gets a lot of international support (in the USA Oprah Winfrey is an important supporter). I am planning to write more about this book with the story of Heather Reynolds. Good to hear from you again! Blessings, Paul

Hi Dean, thank you for visitng my blog and I am also happy to find fellow Christians in the blogosphere - and in real life, of course ;-)

One of the things I like about blogging is having all these international contacts. I live in a small, over-populated country where many people seem to think that their opinions are very important. Looking at the globe is a very humbling experience for us, Dutchies.

One look at the giant continent of Africa (I've never been there!) really makes me think...

For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
2 Chronicles 16:9

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13

I am sure the Lord's eyes are on Africa - especially because so many people in my part of the world seem to ignore this great continent!

Blessings from the Netherlands - let's pray for Africa, my friend!
