Why not Women?

Following yesterday's entry, I have two books - both read by my wife Lydia but not by me (yet) - on this subject of the role of women in the church and society that I would like to bring to your attention. Feel free to let me know what you think of these books! Of course I will read them as well...

Loren Cunningham & David J. Hamilton with Janice Rogers
WHY NOT WOMEN?
A Biblical Study of Women in Missions, Ministry, and Leadership
"Millions of women all over the world are looking over the church's shoulder, longing to see the freedom Jesus purchased for them at Calvary. Millions more have found freedom in Jesus but are still bound by human ideas—ideas that pressure a woman to let culture, not God, determine her place in the Kingdom."

Bridget Plass
DEAR PAUL... AM I THE ONLY ONE?
The Apostle’s response to contemporary problems
"Bridget Plass uses the concept of imagined correspondence between the apostle Paul and a widely varying group of contemporary men and women to explore the apostle’s controversial teaching in a way that is at the same time informative, factual and fun. In her role as a Christian speaker, Bridget has met many who have expressed their views of Paul to her. Her use of the two-way fictional correspondence allows her to explore the real and deep issues she has encountered against the biblical background of Acts and Paul’s letters to the early Church. The result is a book which is deeply insightful and designed to minister to the needs of all those who have struggled with the challenge of reconciling Paul’s theology to their own lives, and perhaps have experienced self-doubt as a result."

Note for my Dutch blog readers - both books are also available in Dutch: Waarom geen vrouwen? (Gideon, Hoornaar - ISBN 90-6067-993-8) Beste Paulus... ben ik de enige? (Merweboek, Sliedrecht - ISBN 90-5787-049-5)
