I'm still standing

"The Statue of Jesus Christ behind Saint Louis Cathedral is surrounded by about five or six 100+ year old Oak Trees. Every one of them fell. However... NONE of them touched Him. It is a sight to see. All these massive wooden behemoths falling at the feet of our Lord... Call it Divine Intervention? Maybe... but it's not too late to start believing..." (Alvaro - see below)
Alvaro, a resident of New Orleans, kept a photo diary of his experience of Hurricane Katrina. It really hurts to see images of this beautiful city and my heart cries when I think of all the people who used to live there. Our Lord has told us that there will be wars, famines and natural disasters before He returns. I know that these things will happen but I really don't understand why (please read this and this!)

Jesus, I believe that You are Lord of all creation - even when the whole world falls down all around us. Lord have mercy on us, your people! We don't see why these things have to happen - we just don't understand your ways. I try to understand You but I don't hear your answer. Why are You silent, Lord? Did You speak in this storm? I don't know, but I still trust You. I know that You are like a rock, like a merciful shadow, like a shelter from the storm. Lord, bless the survivors, heal them and restore their lives. Please, God, turn this tragedy into something that will bring your people closer together and back to your heart!

Psalm 93
The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the LORD on high is mighty. Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD.

Alvaro's slideshow Five Days with Katrina starts with images from the French Quarter before Katrina would strike and goes on with photographs from the next 4 days. Surreal pictures, amazing comments!

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of New Orleans and also with all the Americans that have to live on after the tragedies and devastations caused by the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks - today 4 years ago. May the Lord be your Comforter!

By the way, it is hard to believe that God is saving statues while people are drowning. However, the image of the Jesus statue - still standing while everything falls apart - is a strong symbol. That's how I see it.
