Jesus teaches us that the victims of a crime, an accident or a natural disaster are not especially 'guilty' or 'punished by God'. We are all part of a fallen creation!

If you are a U2 addict like I am, you really have to read the book WALK ON, the Spiritual Journey of U2, by Steve Stockman. The author is an ordained minister within the Presbyterian Church of Ireland - he works in the Chaplaincy at Queen's University in Belfast and has his own radio show on BBC Ulster.

Easter Movies

This Easter weekend Lydia and I watched these two dvd's:



We finally decided to watch Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ - not on Good Friday, but on Easter Sunday (I wasn't looking forward to the bloody scenes...) .
On Monday night, 'second Easter day' in the Netherlands, we watched Luther (the site is temporarily offline, but there is plenty of information available if you use Google).

The Passion of the Christ is an impressive movie, but I have seen too much blood and cruelty in this film. Mel Gibson did an excellent job as a movie maker, but he emphasized the violent torture of Jesus to such an extreme that I had to look away several times during the film.

I have an objection against the scene in the garden of Gethsemane (where Jesus prayed to his Father in anguish: ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what you want’). In this scene Jesus gets up and crushes the snake’s head with his heel, dramatizing Genesis 3:14, 15 (So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you will be punished. You are singled out from all the domestic and wild animals of the whole earth to be cursed. You will grovel in the dust as long as you live, crawling along on your belly. From now on, you and the woman will be enemies, and your offspring and her offspring will be enemies. He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”) I do feel that this dramatic addition to the written account is 'allowed', but I don't agree with Mel Gibson's decision to include Satan in this particular scene (or a person representing the presence of evil). The Bible says that an angel from heaven appeared to Jesus and strengthened him. (Luke 22:43). I don't believe that Satan or a demon was there at the same time... Jesus went to this garden to be alone with his Father!


My biggest question is: why didn't Mel Gibson show more of the life and preaching of Christ and less of his suffering and death? For me it is a disappointment that there were only a couple of flash backs showing scenes from Jesus' life and preaching. It seems to me that Gibson is obsessed with the physical suffering of Christ. Jesus suffered a cruel death, no question about it, but his spiritual suffering must have been far worse! Jesus' best friends left him and at the cross even his heavenly Father was nowhere to be found... (He asked his Father: “Why have you forsaken me?”). Physically Jesus was completely exhausted, but his spiritual power never left him. He still had the strength to forgive a condemned criminal and He asked forgiveness for the very people that crucified him: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”


I do want to believe that Mel Gibson had the noblest intentions with this film, but I don't think that he succeeded in showing WHY Jesus had to suffer and die on a cross. Only Jesus, being the perfect Son of God in human flesh, was able to pay for the sin of mankind. He predicted his own death and resurrection. His life, death and resurrection were absolutely unique and I think that Mel Gibson failed to explain why Jesus' passion was much more than a cruel crime against a wise Jewish rabbi. Thousands of people were crucified during the reign of Roman emperors. But there was only one blameless lamb that took away our sins at the cross on Golgotha: Jesus Christ, my Saviour.

The Passion of the Christ may have given many people the chance to discover the Jesus of the Gospels and that is something to be gratefull for. I do hope and pray that all these viewers will start reading the gospel accounts of Jesus' life in the Bible, because I believe that these written testimonies are still much better than any film ever made!

Alphacursus voor een duidelijke C?

Ik heb laatst wat plagerig gereageerd op de discussie over de C binnen de NCRV. (Hier kun je die posting lezen). Moet ik mijn mening nu herzien? Klik hier om te lezen wat de waarnemend voorzitter en directeur van deze omroep te melden hebben over het recente vertrek van Kees Klop. En deze pagina is ook interessant als je meer wilt lezen (of wilt reageren).

Citaat: "Veel kranten hebben geschreven dat de medewerkers van de NCRV niet gediend zouden zijn van een meer nadrukkelijke Protestantse koers. Dat is heel jammer, want niets is minder waar."

"Niets is minder waar" blijft een uitdrukking die voor tweeërlei uitleg vatbaar is. Double talk? Zonder gekheid, ik hoop echt dat het evangelie ook via de NCRV luid en duidelijk verspreid gaat worden - maar tot dusver heb ik daar nog niet veel van gemerkt (nooit kan het geloof te veel verwachten). Laat die cursus protestantisme maar achterwege, dat is toch alleen maar een geschiedenis van scheuringen en gekissebis. Gewoon allemaal een Alpha Cursus - is dat geen beter idee?

Overigens ben ik blij met het werk van de Evangelische Omroep in de Nederlandse media - maar ik vind dat die omroep ook te veel emotie-televisie maakt. Waarom zie ik nooit een spetterend concert op televisie van Delirious? Wanneer zien we iets van Jars of Clay? Waarom heeft de EO totaal geen aandacht besteed aan een geniaal musicus als Neal Morse die met zijn teksten en muziek toch een opmerkelijk getuigenis geeft en die ook door de fijnproevers buiten het christelijke subcultuurtje op waarde wordt geschat? Waar is de gospelmuziek gebleven op de publieke zenders? Zijn er geen uitingen van kunst en cultuur onder christenen? Wat geven we toch een armoedig beeld van het christelijk geloof via radio en televisie! Vroeger zag je het Oslo Gospel Choir nog wel eens voorbij komen en EO's eigen Ronduit Gospel Choir. Ja, ik weet het, zondagavond op radio 3 en (gelukkig!) sinds kort ook webradio. Maar het gospelaanbod via de nationale televisienetten en publieke radiozenders in Nederland is bedroevend. Gelukkig hebben we nog internet...

Non-stop prayers (Please feel free to post a prayer request or send me a personal message - see below this posting!)

Some time ago I came across this site about praying continually (24-7 prayer). Are these guys a bunch of fanatics, or what? No, at least, I don't think so! I believe that prayer is a re-discovered weapon, a powerful gift from God that has long been neglected by many Christians. For sure, they will say grace at the table before they start loading their stomachs with food and drinks and - if they are Catholics - they might cross themselves every now and then. And of course all true believers will cry out to God if there is a reason to be worried or afraid. They say there are no atheists in fox holes, and I would add that their number is greatly reduced if there is a major disaster.

I'm not much of a prayer warrior myself. I don't get up early to pray for an hour or more and I don't skip a night's sleep to discuss things with the Lord, but I do speak to God throughout my day (and often during the night). I share my thoughts with Him, I thank Him for the people I love and for all the good things that He has given me. I discuss my plans with Him and I bring my fears and anxieties before the heavenly throne.

I was raised as a Christian and my parents taught me to pray. For me, praying is like breathing and reading the Bible is like eating my daily bread. 'Most people commit the same mistake with God that they do with their friends: they do all the talking' - I just read somewhere. That is something to think about. In silence, of course...

The 24-7 prayer movement is spreading like wildfire. Visit this site if you want to know what is going on. You can also visit the so called Wailing Wall to post a prayer and / or to pray for someone else's needs. You can also read about special Houses of Prayer (the so called Boiler Rooms) where people go to pray, sing, think, draw or just be silent in the presence of God. Als één lid lijdt, lijden alle leden

Gelukkig is er in ons deel van de wereld godsdienstvrijheid en vrijheid van meningsuiting. Rondom de aardbol zijn er echter landen waar mensen met 'afwijkende' meningen of geloofsovertuigingen vervolgd worden. Open Doors is een internationale organisatie die wereldwijd aandacht besteedt aan het lot van vervolgde christenen. In samenwerking met deze organisatie heeft uitgeverij Ark Boeken recent diverse boeken laten verschijnen.


Broeder Dick - Ervaringen van een bijbelsmokkelaar. Dit boek bevat de memoires van Dick Langeveld (de gesproken herinneringen zijn door journalist Jan Heijnen uitgewerkt). Dick Langeveld werkte jarenlang in het geheim voor Open Doors in voormalige Oostblok-landen. Pas nu het gevaar voor christenen in dit werelddeel vrijwel geheel verdwenen is, konden de indrukwekkende verhalen over hun geloofsmoed opgeschreven en uitgegeven worden. Een leger van licht - Hoop op vrede in het Midden-Oosten. Dit boek is geschreven door de oprichter van Open Doors, Anne van der Bijl - samen met de Amerikaanse auteur Al Janssen. Anne van der Bijl vertelt over de manier waarop hij in de afgelopen 35 jaar de christelijke gemeenschap in de moslimwereld heeft gediend. Vaak wist hij mensen persoonlijk te bemoedigen en ondersteunde hij onderwijs, pastoraat en evangelisatieprojecten. Zo heeft hij jaren in het Midden-Oosten met zijn conflicten en schijnbaar onoplosbare tegenstellingen, de boodschap van de Vredevorst gebracht.

Zij mogen de hemel niet zien bevat het aangrijpende relaas van de Noord-Koreaanse Soon Ok Lee. In mijn posting van 14 januari 2005 kun je meer lezen over (de achtergronden) van dit boek. Dit is geen aangenaam verhaal om te lezen, maar het is m.i. wel noodzakelijk om kennis te nemen van de inhoud als je wat verder wilt denken over wat er zoal in de wereld gebeurt. Klik hier als je meer wilt weten over de gebedsactie van Open Doors voor Noord-Korea. Het gebed van christenen zal voor een doorbraak in dit land zorgen - daar geloof ik oprecht in.

Supergans: fraai en eigenzinnig

Vandaag ontdekte ik een mooie Nederlandstalige weblog van Supergans. Ik heb 'm direct aan mijn favorieten toegevoegd - het lijkt erop dat we wat gedeelde interesses hebben. Houd die site in de gaten - ziet er fraai en eigenzinnig uit!

Marcel & Lydia Zimmer

Het muzikale echtpaar Marcel en Lydia Zimmer timmert al heel wat jaren aan de weg. Marcel Zimmer is een bekende verschijning in de Nederlandse praise & worship scene (als ik dat zo oneerbiedig mag uitdrukken) en veel van zijn liedteksten zijn opgenomen in de bundel van Opwekking. Zeer geliefd is zijn lied Heer, U bent altijd bij mij (gebaseerd op Psalm 139). Lydia Zimmer heeft een heldere, vriendelijke stem. Zij zong ondermeer op de succesvolle cd's van Opa Knoest die bij GMI zijn te bestellen. Ik vind het door haar gezongen nummer Als er vergeving is bijzonder mooi.

De cd Wat een liefde is van uitstekende kwaliteit - zowel tekstueel als muzikaal. Ik ben bijzonder blij - hoe vreemd dat ook klinkt - met de teksten over verdriet Als ik huil, afhankelijkheid Mijn hulp is van U Heer, kruis dragen Ben je bereid? en vergeving Als er vergeving is. Er zijn al heel veel mooie 'happy-clappy' liederen voor mensen die blij en gelukkig zijn. Maar de realiteit is dat er veel mensen door het leven gaan met pijn, verdriet en zorgen. In Gods Woord vinden zij teksten die hun gevoelens van vertwijfeling, onzekerheid en angst verwoorden. Het is heel goed dat Marcel en Lydia hun gaven ook inzetten om bemoedigende, troostende en genezende liederen te maken en te zingen.

Wat mij betreft is de titelsong Wat een liefde een nieuwe klassieker. Dit refrein blijft in je hoofd rondzingen (soms is dat geen goed teken, maar in dit geval wel!) en ik weet vrijwel zeker dat dit ook een favoriet lied voor de samenzang wordt. Herstel mijn eerste liefde kende ik al in de uitvoering van een ander muzikaal echtpaar: Reni en Elisa Krijgsman. Ook dit lied blijkt van Marcel & Lydia te zijn en hun uitvoering doet beslist niet onder voor die van Reni en Elisa die te vinden is op de cd Onvoorwaardelijk.

Als je het mij vraagt: deze cd mag je niet missen! Ook heel mooi om weg te geven aan familie of vrienden - God kan deze muziek en teksten gebruiken om harten te raken.

Goodbye Mina...

Our black cat Mina died yesterday. We are all a bit sad, because she was with us for such a long time and we will certainly miss her very much. On May 4th she would have been 19 years old. God loves animals too - He is the Creator of all life. Although Mina was 'just another animal' - for our little family she was unique and we are glad that she gave us so much friendship for such a long time. Goodbye Mina!

Praten met Prediker

Alweer een jaar of twee geleden ging ik met een oud-collega op bezoek bij dominee André Troost in zijn woonplaats Heusden. We hadden als voorbereiding op dit gesprek bij Ark Boeken nagedacht over thema's die deze succesvolle auteur misschien konden verleiden tot het schrijven van een mooi boek voor onze uitgeverij. Bij vrijwel alle voorstellen zag ik Troost denken: Daar heb ik al eens een boekje over geschreven (soms zei hij dat ook). Bij één voorstel sloeg er echter een vonkje over. Ik vroeg hem of hij niet eens iets voor onze uitgeverij kon schrijven over Prediker (één van mijn favoriete boeken uit het Oude Testament). Zijn ogen begonnen te glinsteren, hij stond op uit zijn stoel, liep naar zijn computer en begon vanaf het scherm voor te lezen: 'Waarde Prediker... Vanzelfsprekend waag ik het niet mijzelf met u te vergelijken - u bent per slot van rekening een eerbiedwaardige bijbelschrijver en ik maar gewoon een Hollandse dominee. Maar zit ik er ver naast wanneer ik stel dat wij toch in zekere zin collega's zijn? Predikers, dat zijn wij, u en ik. En schrijvers, boekenschrijvers.'
Het bleek dat Troost al een compleet manuscript over Prediker in zijn pc had opgeslagen! Hij beloofde er nog wat aan te schaven en er ook binnen een gespreksgroep van zijn gemeente verder mee aan het werk te gaan. Een paar maanden later kwam het bestand keurig bij mij in de mailbox. We hebben de door hem voorgestelde titel Zoet is de zon in goed overleg veranderd in Praten met Prediker (eigenlijk was dit de subtitel die Troost in gedachten had) en we hebben de bijbeltekst uit de NBG'51-editie vervangen door de meer eigentijdse woorden uit de Nieuwe Bijbelvertaling. Op mijn verzoek bedacht de auteur een nieuwe subtitel rond het begrippenpaar 'lucht en leegte' - de prachtige uitdrukking die men in de NBV gebruikt heeft voor wat in oudere vertalingen 'ijdelheid der ijdelheden' heet. De nieuwe subtitel werd: 'Over lucht, leegte en leven onder de zon.'

Zojuist heb ik via internet een interview beluisterd dat gisteren via 747 AM werd uitgezonden. Andries Knevel van de Evangelische Omroep sprak met ds. André Troost over zijn nieuwe boek. Het werd een - voor mij althans - onthullend gesprek. Niet dat de auteur zoveel opzienbarends mee te delen had over zijn nieuwe boek, het was vooral de vragensteller die zich in zijn hart liet kijken. Andries Knevel blijkt grote moeite te hebben met de aardse levensfilosofie van Prediker. Knevel vindt het bijbelboek Prediker inhoudelijk maar heel oppervlakkig. Het meest positieve wat de oude Prediker te melden heeft komt immers neer op: 'Geniet van het leven' - en dat stuit een rechtgeaard calvinist als Andries Knevel klaarblijkelijk tegen de borst.

Al eerder zag ik Andries Knevel in een uitzending van de RKK op een dergelijke manier reageren. Die keer ontmoette hij christenen die eerder een bourgondische dan een calvinistische uitstraling hadden. De EO-directeur en presentator bracht op verzoek van het programma Kruispunt een paar dagen door in de Achelse Kluis. In die uitzending vormden de onrust, het activisme en het gelijkhebberige van Andries Knevel een opmerkelijk contrast met de rust, sereniteit en bescheidenheid van zijn katholieke gastheren. Dit leverde een boeiende botsing op tussen twee christelijke levenshoudingen en - ik moet het toegeven - ik voelde me daarbij veel meer aangetrokken door het rijke katholieke levensgevoel dat de kloosterbroeders van de Achelse Kluis in al hun eenvoud uitstraalden, dan door het benauwde calvinisme dat Knevel in mijn ogen liet zien (al heb ik zeer veel respect en waardering voor hem, laat dat vooral duidelijk zijn!)



Het radiogesprek tussen Knevel en Troost was ook zo'n botsing van naturen. Dat werd bijvoorbeeld duidelijk uit deze passage uit het interview waarin Knevel een uitspraak uit het boek van Troost citeert (te vinden op pagina 93 van het boek):

Knevel: "Genot is een gave van God! riep ik van de week thuis tegen mijn gezin. Ze wisten niet wat ze hoorden!"
Troost: "Dan heeft zo'n boek toch wel zin gehad."
Knevel: "Nou, in de puriteins-piëtistische traditie waaruit u en ik komen, werd dat niet zo snel geroepen."
Troost: "Precies, en daarom is dit ook een geluid dat er wezen mag en dat ook wezenlijk is, wil je de schepping verstaan. (...) Zie Prediker als een profeet, als een correctie op die puriteinse traditie die eigenlijk het genot als een grote zonde ziet."



Ik heb geprobeerd om wat van de woorden van André Troost uit dit boeiende gesprek hieronder weer te geven, maar dat valt niet mee. Knevel laat - zoals we dat inmiddels wel van hem gewend zijn - zijn gast zelden rustig uitpraten. Ik vind dat persoonlijk ook niet zo heel erg, want het levert wel vaak spannende gesprekken op. De attente radioluisteraar zal gemerkt hebben dat Troost zijn interviewer zelfs tussen de regels door oproept om Prediker niet in de rede te vallen:

"Nou zeggen we in onze kerken zo graag - ook u als Evangelische Omroep, als ik dat zo vrij mag zeggen: 'Luister nou naar Israël. Luister naar Israël!' Nou, dat moet je dan doen door zo'n boekje Prediker te lezen en dat nou eens eerst helemaal te laten uitpraten. Niet direct allerlei reformatorische of evangelische gedachten daar over uitsmeren; niet direct allerlei kerkelijke maatstaven die voor ons veel betekenen daar naast leggen, want ja, dan zou je á la minute zo'n boekje als Prediker af kunnen schrijven. Nee, neem het eerst nou eens helemaal zoals het zijn wil en wees er blij mee."

Na deze boeiende confrontatie tussen twee verwante (maar in bepaalde opzichten duidelijk tegengestelde) geesten, rest mij nog één vraag: is Troost nu door Andries gekneveld of is Knevel door André getroost? Laten we hopen dat het laaste het geval is.

Mocht Andries Knevel toevalligerwijs op mijn weblog belanden (je weet maar nooit), dan heb ik nog een troostende bijbeltekst voor hem:

‘Kom naar mij, jullie die vermoeid zijn en onder lasten gebukt gaan, dan zal ik jullie rust geven. Neem mijn juk op je en leer van mij, want ik ben zachtmoedig en nederig van hart. Dan zullen jullie werkelijk rust vinden, want mijn juk is zacht en mijn last is licht.’ (Matteüs 11:28-30, NBV)

Waarom deze tekst? Omdat ik denk dat Knevel zichzelf en zijn medechristenen onbedoeld een ondragelijke last op de schouders legt. Hij gaf in het gesprek met Troost aan dat er geen tijd verspild mag worden, "want er gaan zoveel mensen verloren". Als je met die last moet leven, dan maak je het leven als christen in mijn ogen ondragelijk zwaar. Jezus genas veel mensen, maar Hij genas niet iedereen. Hij sprak zeer veel mensen toe, maar Hij ontweek soms de massa om bewust de rust op te zoeken. Jezus draagt ons, zijn volgelingen, wel op om zijn getuigen te zijn, maar we hoeven niet te denken dat alles van onze inspanningen afhangt.

Wat klopt hier niet?

NCRV-voorzitter Kees Klop is per direct opgestapt. Volgens de NCRV om 'persoonlijke redenen', maar in de media wordt het vertrek van Klop direct in verband gebracht met de 'omstreden' cursus protestantisme die hij het voltallige personeel wilde laten volgen. Kennelijk zitten de NCRV-medewerkers niet op zo'n opfriscursus te wachten. Naar verluidt wil de NCRV in de programma's meer de nadruk gaan leggen op geloofsbeleving. Persoonlijk denk ik dat dit een doorzichtige overlevingsstrategie is. De fatsoenlijke NCRV onderscheidt zich vrijwel niet van andere keurige omroepen als de volkse TROS en de burgerlijke AVRO. De christelijke identiteit stelt al jarenlang geen bal meer voor (uit medelijden met het NCRV-personeel heb ik de bal toch maar in hun logo laten staan, maar als de identiteit nog verder verwatert schiet ik die er ook uit. Laatste waarschuwing!) Het vertrek van Klop is wellicht ook een vorm van kleur bekennen. Misschien kunnen ze bij de NCRV mijn voorgestelde aanpassing van het logo overnemen. Ik stel het ontwerp gratis ter beschikking.

London Book Fair 2005

From Sunday 13th through Tuesday 15th March I've been in England to attend the London Book Fair - which took place for the last time in the Olympia Exhibition Centre. Next year this event will move to a new venue (and I can see why). Both the Exhibition Centre and the Hotel 'Majestic' reminded me of the grandeur of days past... Let's say that the pictures give you a classy impression, but I guess the hotel hasn't changed much since Queen Victoria's reign (1837 to 1901). It was nice to be in London, though, and I had several pleasant and useful meetings with my foreign publishing partners. My first experience with easyJet was quite good: modern airplanes, friendly flight attendants and I arrived ahead of schedule, both in London (Luton) and in Amsterdam. Not bad for € 92,22! (Add £9.00 for a return ticket with Green Line for a special bus service between London Victoria Tube Station and London Luton).

Joshua The Movie

Last week we have watched the DVD 'Joshua' - a movie based on a book by Joseph Girzone

A mysterious man named Joshua (Tony Goldwyn) arrives in a small town and starts working as a carpenter. He helps rebuilding a local Baptist church and inspires the whole community to work together. I don't want to spoil the plot, so watch this movie for yourself!

Two Sons
Jesus also told them another story:
Once a man had two sons. The younger son said to his father, “Give me my share of the property.” So the father divided his property between his two sons.
Not long after that, the younger son packed up everything he owned and left for a foreign country, where he wasted all his money in wild living. He had spent everything, when a bad famine spread through that whole land. Soon he had nothing to eat.
He went to work for a man in that country, and the man sent him out to take care of his pigs.
Finally, he came to his senses and said, “My father's workers have plenty to eat, and here I am, starving to death! I will go to my father and say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against God in heaven and against you. I am no longer good enough to be called your son. Treat me like one of your workers.’ ”
The younger son got up and started back to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt sorry for him. He ran to his son and hugged and kissed him.

But his father said to the servants, “Hurry and bring the best clothes and put them on him. Give him a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet.

His father came out and begged him to go in. But he said to his father, “For years I have worked for you like a slave and have always obeyed you. But you have never even given me a little goat, so that I could give a dinner for my friends. This other son of yours wasted your money on prostitutes. And now that he has come home, you ordered the best calf to be killed for a feast.”
His father replied, “My son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we should be glad and celebrate! Your brother was dead, but he is now alive. He was lost and has now been found.” !

Priester on-line

Op 10 januari 2005 besteedde ik op mijn blogspot aandacht aan de rooms-katholieke priester Antoine Bodar (mijn posting ging over het boek 'Bodar' van Petra Pronk). Gisteren was deze spraakzame / spraakmakende priester te gast in het televisieprogramma van Andries Knevel (op de EO-site kun je met Real Player het interview nog bekijken). Ik hoorde dat Bodar sinds 24:00 uur vannacht een eigen website heeft. Klik op de titel van deze posting en je komt er vanzelf. (Alle wegen leiden naar Rome, maar vanaf mijn blog is dit dus de snelste weg naar de site van Bodar!)

Lookalike

For most Christians it takes ages before they show the image of Christ. But what about (self-proclaimed) baby Christian Brian 'Head' Welch? Perhaps he heard the song: 'Lord, I want to be mistaken for You'. OK, maybe Jesus doesn't have a tattoo like Brian - but, hey, Jesus is the Living Word and needs no tattoos to proclaim the truth. Jesus speaks and it exists - which also shows that He is truly God. The tattoo in Brian's neck shows He is dead serious about it and wants to be a committed follower of Jesus for the rest of his life. You can post your own testimony on his site now!
Something is going on in the world of hard rock music. Maybe these guys are attracted to Jesus because He is the Rock? I guess so.

Five Great Guitars

Last Friday I went to The Five Great Guitars - a guitar concert in my home town Hoofddorp - together with two of my brothers in law (Rob Koster and Ronald Bood). Rob invited us for this evening and we had a great time. Thank you Rob - I owe you one!
I think the guitarists were too modest to call their concert The Five Great Guitarists, although that name would have been very appropriate as well.
Digmon Roovers played bass on an acoustic guitar (!) with some amplifier effects
Eric Vaarzon Morel played Spanish acoustic guitar (nice name and a great flamenco maestro!)
Jan Kuiper played acoustic guitar (initiator of this tour and a true guitar virtuoso)
Harry Sacksioni played acoustic guitar (6 and 12-strings) and needs no introduction for guitar lovers - he is fabulous and I admire his skills and his enthusiasm!
Zou Diarra played a red electric semi-acoustic guitar (as cool and collected as BB King himself - always smiling while producing some terrific guitar and harp sounds. This guy also makes his own string instruments!)

If you ever have the opportunity to check out one of these great guitarists: don't miss it!

Ik heb Liesbeth ontmoet in verband met mijn werk als uitgever bij Ark Boeken. Ik verzamelde teksten - onder pseudoniem Panda - en zij maakte er vrolijke illustraties bij onder haar 'werknaam' betje.com (bezoek haar site als je meer wilt weten en zien). Brian Doerksen concert

Yesterday Lydia and I attended a concert by Brian Doerksen in Hoofddorp. It was a joyful experience! We did want to buy Brian's new cd Today, but unfortunately there were no copies left... However, we didn't leave empty handed (and certainly not with empty hearts!). We bought You Shine - Live from Dublin - recommended if you love praise & worship music. This morning I had to drive through busy traffic, due to a lot of snow on our motor ways in Holland. It took me 1,5 hours to drive to the office (normally this takes approx. half an hour). Anyway, enough time for me to enjoy my new cd!
